News about China [1]

I’ve compiled some relevant news items about China which will hopefully increase our understanding and interest in China and geopolitics.

THE CASE AGAINST CHINA – PACIFIC DAILY TIMES 12 July 2021 The case against China keeps sprawling—trade, currency, COVID, now SAARS. Understanding China is such a key in global public opinion, it has become a case against Biden that political grandstanding and demagoguery can use without spinning facts. But being a world where all bad press is censored press instead of good press, China won’t understand the trouble it wove itself into. As if the list of global grievances wasn’t enough, China joins with North Korea in appearances and rhetoric. A Pacific skirmish involving the Chinese would drag in the Norks. That means that NATO allies and India could deal with the world’s menace, help the UK regain Hong Kong, recognize democracy in Taiwan, and unify the Korean peninsula in one move. While China and North Korea see their agreement as a strength, the West sees an opportunity.

WE DON’T GET CHINA – SKY.NEWS. AU 11 July 2021 Author and columnist Gordon Chang has warned China’s attack on the United States is “malicious” and the communist country is trying to “overthrow our government”.Mr Chang said China turned COVID-19 into a “biological weapon” because it “lied about contagiousness” and “knew it was highly transmissible, human-to-human”. He also told Sky News Australia that the Biden administration “does not understand” the China “challenge”. Mr Chang’s comments were made at the Conservative Political Action Conference where former president Donald Trump is expected to speak.

US WANTS TO BAN CHINA’S CAMERAS – ALJAZEERA 17 June 2021 US regulators are poised to ban products from Huawei Technologies Co. and four other Chinese electronics companies, including surveillance cameras widely used by American schools but linked to oppression in western China, stepping up pressure on tech suppliers alleged to be security risks. Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology Co. and Dahua Technology Co., whose cameras can be found in U.S. schools and local government facilities, are targeted in a proposed order the Federal Communications Commission is set to vote on Thursday. Also named in the order are telecom giant ZTE Corp. and two-way radio maker Hytera Communications Corp.

THE ARMS RACE IS ON – China News 11 July 2021 It’s big. It’s remote. It’s mysterious. It’s an enormous radioactive desert in “outback” China. And Beijing is building its equivalent to Area 51 there. Two of them. The arms race between East and West is once again heating up.Stealth is old news. As are cruise missiles and high-flying spy planes. The “black” projects of the 2020s are all about drones, artificial intelligence and sixth-generation combat aircraft. Aircraft such as the ultra-fast, ultra-high flying SR-71 Blackbird was born there. Secret breakthroughs such as the F117 Nighthawk stealth fighter were based there. Many other weird and wonderful design concepts were tested there. Now China’s in the arms race business. So it’s building its own.
